Vermelho presents, from April 25th to May 20th, 2006, Mensageiro by Maurício Ianês.
The work of artist Maurício Ianês addresses the bankruptcy of artistic representation. Their performances establish a clash with the observer and seek to overcome the language barrier, revealing new relationships and contacts outside the scope of language. This thought permeates the series of new works that will be presented in Mensageiro, the title of the exhibition and the performance/installation that occupies the 1st floor of the gallery. The video “Alfabeto Barroco” and the performance/installation “Mensageiro”, both from 2006, point to the richness and diversity that can exist in the individual reading of observers. The installation features a set of chairs linked together, which function as a link to the performance that will take place at the opening of the exhibition. In it, each empty chair represents a place to be occupied and points to a moment of waiting, of suspension, indicating the place of the receiver, the recipient of the message that changes each time it reaches its destination. Both in “Sussurro”, a video from 2006, where the artist explores broader possibilities of non-verbal communication, and in “Tom”, an installation composed of 29 images that refer to the relationships established by language, also from 2006, there is an attempt to affect the observer physically through sound intensities and volumes that are projected into space, alternating the distance between the work and the observer. In addition to these works, an unprecedented edition of recordings of performances carried out by the artist will be presented.
