Modos de Usar [How to Use] is the result of a seminar on the issue of participation in art, organized by art critic and curator Lisette Lagnado. The reflection arose from reading the essay “Valor e Afeto” by Toni Negri. The concepts of “immaterial labor” and “attention economy” were used as starting points for a discussion about participation in artistic practices. Modos de Usar [How to Use] seeks to highlight how the artist proposes the other and integrates this user, absorbing their subjectivity and otherness. These rendezvous with artists aimed to analyze the changes brought about by the artistic propositions of the 60s and 70s.
In weekly meetings since September, the curator worked with the participants and the Gallery team on some keywords to boost the debates: affection; amateur; economy; ephemeral; immaterial; infancy; fetish; instructions; game; non-artist; business; participation; power; seduction;
souvenirs; replacement; tourist; etc.
Participating in the exhibition are: Alexandra Pescuma, André Komatsu, Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain, Carlos Siffert, Chiara Banfi, Edilaine Cunha, Fabio Morais, Gisela Motta, Giuliano Montijo, João Nitsche and Pedro Nitsche, Laércio Redondo, Leandro Lima, Maíra Voltolini, Marilá Dardot, Maurício Ianês, Neka Mena Barreto, Nicolás Robbio, Paulo Nenflídio, Rivane Neuenschwander, Rodrigo Matheus, Roni Hirsch and Giovana Gregolin, Sara Ramo, Eliane Testone
Maurício Ianês, Sara Ramo, Laércio Redondo and Eliane Testone developed projects based on the rendez-vous model: artists invite the public to participate in a meeting at the gallery, in order to participate in the execution of their works. The result will be added to the other works on display.
There will also be, on November 26th at 7:30 pm, the launch of the book “Vida Capital” by Peter Pal Pelbert, and the presentation of “Traduções Gastronomicas” by Rivane Neuenschwander, with the participation of Carlos Siffert and Neka Menna Barreto.
