Vermelho presents, from September 13 to October 4, the individual exhibition Retrato V.t.d. by Fabio Morais.
In his works, Fabio Morais uses appropriated photographs of friends and family or from his own collection, cataloging records of personal stories. These images constitute a documentation of small events, relationships, people, and moments forgotten in time. The artist then blends photography techniques with engraving, fixing the image by sensitizing black and white photographic paper with sunlight and creating engravings on this result.
The exhibition Retrato V.t.d. also introduces, in contrast to the photographic language, written language. Fabio uses old books, transforming them by tearing and cutting their pages. Image (photography) and linear narrative (book) are brought together to symbolize these two forms of recording, two attempts to understand a time and a space.
“I think the central theme of this exhibition is the desire to capture moments of life and hold onto them, through words or images, to be able to remember them later. Making the retention of the moment a fetish, a talisman, a reliquary, a bridge back.” – Fabio Morais
Fabio had his first solo exhibition this year at Sesc Av. Paulista and has participated in various group exhibitions, including “Marrom” at Galeria Vermelho, “Genius Loci” in Circuito Vila Buarque, and “Desdobramentos: Desenho” at MAC de Americana.
