Rosângela Rennó is occupying the Sala Antonio projection room with Vera Cruz, a film from the year 2000, made on the occasion of the exhibition Brasil +500 Anos – Mostra do Redescobrimento, organized by the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Brazil’s “discovery.”
Vera Cruz is an experimental project founded on the idea of the “impossibility” of a documentary about the discovery of Brazil. Based on the content of the famous letter written by Pero Vaz de Caminha, Vera Cruz is a video copy of an (im)possible film. From the image that has disappeared we see only the “image of the film,” worn by the 500 years of its existence. The sound has also disappeared. All that is left of the report is the text of the film’s captions.
Directed by Rosângela Rennó Director’s assistant: Marilá Dardot Editing: Fernanda Bastos
Sound: Ivan Capeller
