Vermelho presents, from November 26th to February 1st, Blue Series, an individual exhibition by Claudia Jaguaribe.
Claudia Jaguaribe composes a “constellation” with circular and blue photographs. Only information such as light, transparency, and color is captured, and the form and name of the photographed object are lost. They are simple, everyday objects, enlarged and cut out. Claudia thus proposes a new perspective. It is a testament to the transformative power of reality through a more mythical, poetic, and sensitive gaze.
Claudia Jaguaribe has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, including at the Centre Régional de la Photographie-France, IDB Cultural Center Art Gallery–Washington DC-USA, Paço Imperial–Rio de Janeiro, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil–Rio de Janeiro, MASP, among others. This month, Claudia inaugurates a major exhibition with the series “Airport” at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, featuring photographs, videos, and the publication of a book.
From November 26th to February 1st, the Vermelho Gallery presents Mônica Nador and Paula Trope.
The project for the gallery’s façade will be the painting “Arquiteturas” (Architectures) by Mônica Nador. This work is a derivation of the “Paredes Pinturas” (Painted Walls) project, where the artist goes to communities far from art centers, collects drawings provided by residents, and then proposes the application of these drawings on the walls of houses to beautify the environment and expand the visual repertoire.
For the gallery, Mônica selected drawings of houses made by residents of Jardim Miriam in São Paulo and from Amazonas, so that the popular representations of houses dialogue with the architectural project of Paulo Mendes da Rocha.
Galeria Vermelho presents in October: Rafael Assef and Eliana Bordin.
Rafael Assef shows recent works, where a comment on fashion and human behavior is made through images of bodies and its fragments. Assef cuts open the skin once again, now following the lines inherent in clothes, in reference of what goes on the skin instead of what goes beneath it, as in his other series. Body hair becomes blue, green and red. Photographs of intimate and internal spaces complete the exhibition, featuring curtains, lustres and light. Rafael Assef has participated in many national and international shows, among them: Pirelli/MASP Collection at the Art Museum of São Paulo, Rumos Visuais Itaú and SAMPA at Stedelijk Museum Het Domein, Netherlands.
Eliana Bordin works with photograms and x-rays to register flowers, flasks, pearls and many other objects. The internal structure of these bodies becomes visible through both techniques, sometimes black & white, sometimes in color. Bordin keeps the structure of the films she uses also visible in her work, revealing to the public the photographic process. This exhibition brings works done since 1998, as a first gathering of pieces from the time she was in FAAP College up to recent works.
Galeria Vermelho presents the exhibition Nocturnes, by photographer Cássio Vasconcellos from September 24 to October 19.
Cássio Vasconcellos has been developing photographic research since the 80’s and has participated in many national and international shows, among them exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum – Holland, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes – Argentina, El Museo Del Barrio – USA, Fundação Gulbenkian – Portugal, Palais de Tokyo – France.
Some images from the “Nocturnes São Paulo” series is featured in both the Pirelli/MASP and the Polaroid Collections, and have also been included in the contemporary photography book Blink, by PHAIDON.
Vasconcellos has been photographing the city of São Paulo during the last five years. Instead of merely making a photographic register, Vasconcellos is proposing a new view of the cityscape. With a Polaroid camera from the 70’s, Vasconcellos has created a new, more surreal and fantastic city.
The Polaroid photograph, where colors have a different saturation from the traditional photography, is scanned and then printed on neutral cotton paper, with mineral ink to guarantee high durability.

The participants where selected by art teacher and artist Dora Longo Bahia, and the idea is to develop works from a discussion about uses, values and meanings of space and the art object. Brazilian architect, Paulo Mendes da Rocha, turned three small houses of an old villa into a building for artistic interventions which has, as a very first of its kind in Brazil, a back-projection screen in its main exhibition room. Considering the increase of artistic research in alternative medias, Mendes da Rocha together with Galeria Vermelho aimed at developing a versatile exhibition space, both in- and outside, to meet these new demands. Paulo Mendes da Rocha is a renowned architect also responsible for the design of the Museu Brasileiro de Escultura in São Paulo, as well as the remodeling of the FIESP building and of the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, which received the Mis Van der Rohe – Latin America 2001 award.
The represented artists will be separated in two teams for the inaugural exhibition. The first show, from May 17 to June 22, will gather pieces of artists who work with photography and video: Rafael Assef, Cris Bierrenbach, Eliana Bordin, Rogério Canella, Domitilia Coelho, Paulo D’Alessandro, Edouard Fraipont, Cristina Guerra, Claudia Jaguaribe, Odires Mlászho, Eustáquio Neves, Amilcar Packer, Alexandra Pescuma, Paula Trope, Cassio Vasconcellos and Marcelo Zocchio.
