The métier of the scribe is as old as writing. In Mexico, although it is disappearing, the artisanal work of the scribe, who is paid to write out texts for clients, is still practiced today. The film presents a reflection on interpretation.
In Pausa, we see a video that begins with the following idea: writers tell a story to the scribe who transforms it into writing. The story comes through the mouth of the writer, through his voice, via the ears of the scribe – and through ours – for its decoding. From the initial organization of the text, a rough draft that alludes to the transformation that takes place between the handwriting of the manuscript and the keys of the typewriter; to, finally, see its translation – the story returns transformed.
