A Operação Ilegal [The Illegal Operation] consists of daguerreotypes, X-rays, and interactive projection. Cris Bierrenbach gives visual representation to pain and deprivation while simultaneously maintaining control over the viewer’s perspective and time. Depending on the angle, the daguerreotype image can appear in positive, negative, or transform into a mirror. In the projection, the viewer creates their own narrative from texts—captions extracted from a film, a documentary, and a television series—within a limited time. The projection soundtrack was composed by DJ Dolores.
